Who likes Music + Books Combo? Tell me your favorite and why!

While you’re thinking about it, associate the lyrics with the characters. Exploring the connections between song lyrics and literature can be an enriching experience. The themes of love, loss, and societal struggles often find expression in both art forms. Analyzing how a lyric’s emotional depth mirrors a book’s narrative can offer new perspectives. Such comparisons can illuminate the power of language to evoke universal human experiences. Discovering these parallels creates a deeper appreciation for both music and literature.

To get the ball rolling, here is my take! So I gave it some thought about music + book pairing.

For my book, I’d pick “The Night Circus” by Erin Morgenstern

As for the song, I feel that “Cosmic Love” by Florence & The Machine

The Night Circus is a dreamlike, enchanting novel filled with magic, love, and fate…with elements that Cosmic Love captures beautifully.

The song’s ethereal, almost tragic tone mirrors the love between Celia and Marco, who are bound by forces beyond their control yet deeply drawn to each other.

Lyric wise, “A falling star fell from your heart and landed in my eyes.” Relates to Celia and Marco’s love, intertwined with magic, feels cosmic and destined.

For me, the song’s whimsical yet haunting quality matches the novel’s surreal, mesmerizing circus atmosphere!

  • For the book, my pick is “The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue” by V.E. Schwab.

For my song, I’m going with “Dancing With Your Ghost” by Sasha Alex Sloan.

    The question now is, why?

The song delves into the haunting nature of loss and the struggle to move on, with the idea of holding onto someone who is no longer there, metaphorically ‘dancing’ with their memory, just like the characters in the book, Addie and Henry, each holding onto the pieces of memories they had towards the end of the book, carrying the loss only they themselves know and remember.

The book itself follows Addie LaRue, who makes a Fastian bargain to live forever but is cursed to be forgotten by everyone that she meets. She moves through the endless wheels of time, filled with loneliness, with the haunting sensation of a love that can never be fulfilled.

This mirrors the sentiment of “Dancing With Your Ghost”, the idea of an ethereal, unfulfilled love, and the overwhelming presence that cannot be fully embraced or returned.

The song’s lyrics, “Baby, you’re just harder to see than most”, potrays Henry’s POV, that he saw her, he remembered her, even if she was invisible to the rest of the world.

    • Oh, this is a good recommendation and a good combination! Keep it up! Let’s have more to share in this section!

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, a young woman desperate to escape an arranged marriage and a stifling life, makes a deal with a mysterious dark god she calls Luc. In exchange for immortality and freedom, she is cursed to be forgotten by everyone she meets but no one can remember her once she’s out of sight! The music you picked definitely a good combo!
